Planning Approval for Vital Highway Link

Planning approval has been granted by Cornwall Council for a vital new highway link in the Camborne Pool Redruth area.

The approval marks a key milestone in the regeneration plans for the area.

Approval was given for the proposed section of road between Dudnance Lane and Dolcoath Avenue at the West Area Sub Committee on Tuesday January 19th. This completes the necessary planning consents required before an area wide transportation package can be implemented across the Camborne Pool Redruth area.

Graeme Hicks, cabinet member for Highways, Transport and Planning, said: "This is a really important step in the ongoing plan to regenerate the Camborne, Pool and Redruth area.

"There are exciting projects going forward in the area such as the Heartlands scheme and the Pool Innovation Centre that will bring much needed jobs - but we have to have the transport infrastructure to back those projects up.

"The full regeneration proposals cannot happen without this highway in place."

Peter Swain, Major Highway Projects Manager, said: "This is a key point in the delivery of the overall transport plan for Camborne, Pool, and Redruth.

"The wider plan includes the improvement of the East/West route between Barncoose and Dolcoath and a high quality North/South route from the A30 Tovaddon junction to a new roundabout at the south end of Dudnance Lane.

"It is a major project and there will be major benefits to the area in enabling important regeneration projects to proceed."

Bill Radmore, Investment Director at CPR Regeneration, the urban regeneration company for Camborne, Pool and Redruth, said: "This latest consent represents the final part of the planning jigsaw that will enable partners to look to secure the necessary grant funding from Central Government to implement the next phase of the road, having recently completed the Barncoose Link and improvements to East Hill junction.

"The East West route will, on completion, take traffic away from the existing A3047 and provide good access from the trunk road to the planned workspace developments and new sites in the area.  This is important if we are to encourage investment in the area and enable businesses to prosper."
