East Hill Junction
15 December 2009
The new traffic signals at the East Hill junction in Pool were switched on at 2.30pm on Monday 14 December, relieving the congestion recently experienced during the works to build the new junction and a dual carriageway along Tolvaddon Road to the A30.
The works are part of the wider improvements to improve transport infrastructure in the area and open up opportunities to create jobs and new homes in the Pool area. The new signals will provide more capacity at this important junction, which caters for some 30,000 vehicle movements a day.
Tim Wood, Contracts Manager said: "Changing major junctions always causes some disruption and Cormac would like to thank everybody for their patience. We have been able to accelerate the works to commission the permanent traffic signals eight weeks early, in time for the busy Christmas and New Year period.
"There will be finishing works to complete in the New Year but we expect these works to be undertaken without any disruption to the main junction. However, drivers need to take care as layouts may change from time to time as the remaining works are constructed."
Peter Swain, the Council's Major Highway Projects Manager added: "Now the work is nearing completion people can see the new entrance to the Camborne-Pool-Redruth regeneration area taking shape. This is an exciting time for the Camborne Pool Redruth regeneration programme as yet another transportation project comes to fruition."
Graeme Hicks said: "The improvement is an important milestone in the regeneration of this urban area. Local people have had to put up with a significant level of inconvenience during the construction period, but I am positive that this will all have been worth it in the end, as the potential for much needed affordable housing and job creation is unlocked in the area."
Bill Radmore, Investment Director at CPR Regeneration, the urban regeneration company for Camborne, Pool and Redruth, said: "This is great news as it is an important milestone towards the regeneration of this area, being a major part of the infrastructure improvements required to bring forward sites which are ready for development, and paves the way for us to open a meaningful dialogue with investors to bring new workspace and housing to the area."
