A special event was held in Camborne today to celebrate the achievements of seven primary schools in the Camborne, Pool and Redruth area that took part in a Young Enterprise project over the course of the last academic year.
From January to July this year, schools took part in a number of workshops learning about "ourselves", "our families", "our community", "our city" and "our world" beginning to get an understanding of how these things relate to work and life (for example, why parents have to go to work through to how far food travels to get to your plate, etc.).
The project was funded by CPR Regeneration, the urban regeneration company for Camborne, Pool and Redruth. Children taking part were introduced to the world of work, life and community as it relates to them and their families. This event was set up to recognise their achievements and celebrate their successes.
Matt Powell, Business Growth Manager for CPR Regeneration said: "When we realised that none of the primary schools in our area had worked with Young Enterprise, we knew that we had a fantastic opportunity to help develop an enterprising culture in Camborne, Pool and Redruth at a much earlier age. This project provided the first steps for these children to learn about enterprise, how they fit in with the communities they live in and how they can play a valuable role in the futures of their towns."
Nigel Tipple, Chief Executive of CPR Regeneration added: "In a part of the county that is seeing so much change and regeneration, it is vitally important that we inspire the youngest members of our community. We must open up a range of future possibilities for them, and enable them to take forward the results of the regeneration work that is happening now."
Young Enterprise, a national charity set up to work with school children of all ages on to inspire and equip them to learn and succeed through enterprise, has previously worked with the secondary schools in Camborne and Redruth and this was the first time that they had been invited to work with primary schools across the area. Emma Wright, Cornwall Development Manager of Young Enterprise said: "this project gave 700 children across the CPR area a chance to really get involved in finding out more about their local communities. It was a great opportunity to help educate young people in order to help them learn skills which they will use in the future. After all, one day they will be making the decisions which effect where they live."
